Helaine Wittenberg, whose daughter Diana was a close friend of Mimi’s, cared for Mimi and covered her food, clothes and schooling. All were happy with the arrangement, including Mimi, who did not get along with her new stepfather. Helaine says that Mimi and her mother loved each other and spoke regularly, and Mimi was happy in those years.
